As Essendon enters a new era, the beginning of which is with the launch of General Health Care Essendon, the club will review its current procedures to ensure that the professional support of the Essendon community continues to meet the needs of all members. General Health Care Essendon is an initiative to better serve the clubs' community by placing patients at the centre of their response to the club's players, officials and other teams.
In the wake of the discussions about Essendon's future in September, the board made it clear that its focus is on the wellbeing of the Essendon family and continued investment in the health and wellbeing of the Essendon community. It also established the General Health Care Essendon program to respond to the needs of the Essendon family, which will be guided by the club's Principal Health Officer, Dr. Tony Pappas.
In the coming months, members of the Essendon family will be invited to become involved in the development of General Health Care Essendon. The program will bring together members from the Essendon community in an effort to contribute towards the provision of top quality health care and wellbeing for Essendon players, staff and fans. The program has been created following consultations with Essendon Community Advisory Group, the Essendon Local Health Service Network, the Essendon Players' Association, the Essendon Football Club, and the Essendon Football Club Members' Association.
General Health Care Essendon offers Essendon members access to medical professionals from local hospitals and other Essendon Community Health Services. General Health Care Essendon services include:

With the dedication of so many people, including members of the Essendon Community and Local Health Service Network, the program will improve and expand the provision of health care and wellness for the Essendon community. It will also support the clubs' commitment to giving back to the community. The goals are to improve patient care and also provide the Essendon community with a better understanding of the Essendon community.
The committee has undertaken a survey and consultation with the Essendon Community Advisory Group, the Essendon Local Health Service Network, the Essendon Players' Association, the Essendon Football Club, and the Essendon Football Club Members' Association to further investigate and explore areas of General Health Care Essendon. This report is to be presented to the Essendon Football Club, Essendon Football Club Members' Association, Essendon Football Club Management and General Health Care Essendon after completion of a community consultation.
Essendon members are encouraged to provide feedback and suggestions on the program. The committee hopes to secure the feedback that is collected by the end of the first quarter of 2020. Essendon may add additional community outreach initiatives in the future to further promote health care and wellness.
The committee understands that with Essendon's huge wealth of resources and a renowned career pathway, the club's health, wellness and well-being will be a very important topic of discussion, however it is anticipated that the club's health, wellness and well-being will be an ongoing issue that will be addressed throughout the season. Essendon will continue to engage all stakeholders to ensure that the Club's health and wellness and well-being are continuously at the forefront of discussion and focus.
Sports Medicine is a well established area within the Essendon Family of Clubs and Essendon was the first sporting club in Australia to integrate sports medicine into its sport program.
